According to recent information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, one out of every four new jobs are in health care. In particular, hospitals saw an increase of over 13,000 new jobs during the month of September, up from the over 7,000 and 11,000 new jobs seen in August and July, respectively. This is good news considering that hospitals saw a decrease of 1,900 jobs in July.



What's more, during the nine months ending September 30, 2011, 258,000 jobs were created in the health care sector of the economy. It's important to note that this 2011 nine month health care job growth compares favorably to the 263,400 job increase seen in the entire year of 2010. Ambulatory services were won of the big gainers within the health care industry, gaining 26,000 jobs in September. If the pace of 2011 growth keeps up, the health care sector is likely to create nearly 344,000 new jobs by the time the ball drops on New Years Eve.

So, why the increases in health care jobs, when other sectors are declining or stagnant. One reason could be the result of the new federal health care law, many more Americans will stand to be insured, placing an increased demand and pressure on health care businesses. Secondly, unemployed workers don't look to health care jobs for employment if they don't have a medical degree or certification.



All in all, it seems that health care employment continues to be one of the few highlights in an otherwise bleak looking overall job picture.
