In for a job in the healthcare market? You’re in luck. While the healthcare market hasn’t been friendly to everyone or all areas, it’s been thriving in general across the country. Though unemployment still hovers just over 10% in the country—a rather bleak but true fact—job availability in the healthcare industry simply continues to grow.

And they’re not just limited to one scope, either. From IT and technological positions to nurses to even veterinarians, healthcare professionals are in need in many areas across the country. At Monster.com, one of the leading employment sites used in America, there’s been a 2% job growth for the healthcare industry. Nursing demands are so high that some colleges are implementing online-only programs to meet the need, while veterinarian positions are expected to increase by 36% within the next eight years.

So where does that leave the unemployed? For starters, getting an education in the healthcare field couldn’t hurt. Many people are going back to school these days. Try applying for an education grant or loan through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to see if you’ll qualify for help. Some healthcare jobs also offer education during training, or a compensation program; check your local job listings and unemployment office to see if any of these are offered near you.

In addition to specialized needs, the growing healthcare industry also requires entry level workers for a variety of needs. With a little bit of on-the-job training, or even an inexpensive home study course, you might be able to get one of these jobs as well. Some positions require no additional training than what’s learned on the job, too.

Of course, if you are the spouse or family member of a member of the military, you may qualify for a Military to Medicine scholarship to gain entry into a healthcare career as well.

Having a degree in the healthcare field, of course, doesn’t automatically guarantee success. In Louisville, healthcare jobs are continually being cut. Two local businesses alone are in the process of cutting 500 jobs.
